General Information:
Side Light fiber optic cable is used in numerous applications including decorative, accent and signage lighting. Fiber optic cable is used as a replacement for Neon, Cold Cathode, Linear LED and others. It has several advantages over those systems including flexibility, no electrical components beyond illuminator location, long and maintenance free life, and active or selective color change.
To design and install effective applications, the bending radius and the lumen transmission loss (attenuation) of the cable should be considered. For recommended cable bending radius see Technical Data table of the Fiber Optic Cable section of the downloadable catalog. Lumen transmission loss can result in an uneven appearance of light levels in the cable. An uneven appearance is minimized by illuminating both ends of the fiber optic cable. This is accomplished by looping cable in and out of a single illuminator or by using an illuminator on either end of a cable run. In general, using a 150 watt LyteLaunch illuminator, it is not advisable to install cable runs of more than 60 to 80 ft., depending on the ambient light levels of the installation area. In some applications that use very short lengths of cable, it may be acceptable to illuminate only one end of cable using a reflecting mirror end cap on the non illuminated end of the cable.
Depending on the illuminator and cable size being used, multiple cable runs can be achieved from each illuminator. See Clearfuse harness table in the downloadable catalog for illuminator cable capacities.
U Channel:
U-Channel tracking is mounted using either #6 or #8 screws through the base of the channel or glue, double faced tape etc. on the backside of the track. When using screws it is advisable to drill a pilot hole through the track base to avoid splitting the material. U-Channel is bendable along the lateral axis to accommodate curves following the surface of a wall. U-Channel will bend only slightly on a vertical axis. U-Channel is available in 4 ft. lengths for cable sizes 8mm, 10mm and 12 - 14mm.
P Clips:
P-Clips are very useful to stabilize fiber cable in corners and in short runs where channel tracking cannot be used. P-clips are optically clear and do not interrupt the visual continuity of the cable.
P-Clips are screw mounted using a #6 or #8 screw in the offset tab of the clip. P-Clips are available in sizes for 8mm, 10mm and 12- 14mm cables.
Gator Clips:
Gator-Clips are very useful to stabilize fiber cable in corners and in short runs where channel tracking can not be used. Gator-clips are optically clear with an open top and do not interrupt the visual continuity of the cable. Gator clips are screw mounted using a #6 or #8 screw through the base of the clip. Gator Clips are available is sizes for 8mm, 10mm and 12- 14mm cables
3M High Performance Channel:
3M HP Channel mounts using separate brackets that attach at approx. 18” intervals using #6 screws. The channel then snaps onto the brackets allowing the channel to expand and contract to minimize any buckling effect over time. 3M HP Channel is available in 6.5ft sections for 7mm and 12mm cables.
Trim-tex Drywall Reveal Bead:
Trim-tex Drywall Revel Bead is sold through authorized Trim-tex dealers.
Trim-tex Revel Bead is designed to accommodate Radialyte™ RL-8 and MegaGlow™ MG-19 cables sizes only.
